Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, and Ollie Watkins have been ruled out of England’s upcoming Nations League fixtures, the English Football Association confirmed on Tuesday. These matches will be the first for England under interim manager Lee Carsley.
England is set to play against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Saturday, followed by a home game against Finland at Wembley three days later in League B.
Palmer, who scored in England’s Euro 2024 final loss to Spain, and Watkins have both returned to their respective clubs due to injuries. Foden has been sidelined by illness and did not join Carsley’s squad.
The FA stated, “No further additions are planned at this moment in time.”
This will be England’s first game since Gareth Southgate’s tenure as manager ended. Carsley has been appointed on an interim basis and has called up Noni Madueke, Morgan Gibbs-White, Tino Livramento, and Angel Gomes for their first appearances in the squad.
