The New York Jets will have wide receiver Mike Williams available for their season opener against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, according to head coach Robert Saleh.
“He’s going be available Week 1,” Saleh confirmed. “We’re going to be very smart with how we use him, but he’s going to be plenty available to make his mark felt.”
Williams, who suffered an ACL tear in Week 3 of the 2023 season while playing for the Los Angeles Chargers, was initially placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list at the start of training camp. He was activated from the reserve group on August 7.
Saleh noted Williams’ strong performance in Thursday’s practice, mentioning that Williams caught several passes for “well over 100 yards.”
“I thought he had a really nice day today,” Saleh added.
Williams signed a one-year, $10-million contract with the Jets in March after being released by the Chargers. The 29-year-old receiver is anticipated to be a significant target for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is coming back from a torn Achilles that cut short his 2023 season after just four plays.
Over his career, Williams has accumulated 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns across 88 games.
