Liverpool have finalized the signing of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa for £10 million, with an additional £2.5 million in potential performance-based add-ons. Chiesa, 26, has joined Liverpool on a four-year contract and becomes the first signing under new manager Arne Slot.
Chiesa, who was a key player in Italy’s Euro 2020 victory over England, expressed his excitement about joining Liverpool, stating, “I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.” He added, “So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”
During his time at Juventus, Chiesa was recognized as one of Serie A’s standout players in his debut season, earning a spot in the league’s team of the year. However, his form declined following a severe knee injury in January 2022, which required surgery. In his tenure with Juventus, Chiesa scored 32 goals in 131 appearances, including 10 goals in 37 matches last season.
Juventus’ new manager, Thiago Motta, excluded Chiesa from his first two matchday squads this season, and with Chiesa’s contract expiring next summer, the move to Liverpool comes amid speculation about his future.
In addition to Chiesa, Liverpool have also agreed to sign Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for up to £29 million, although Mamardashvili will not join the club until next season.
