Liverpool have finalized an agreement to sign Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a deal potentially worth up to £29 million. The transfer includes a base fee of £25 million, with an additional £4 million in performance-related add-ons.
The 23-year-old Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia for the remainder of the current season before moving to Liverpool for the start of the 2025-26 campaign, pending a work permit and international clearance.
Currently, Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper is Brazil international Alisson Becker, who also has Republic of Ireland’s Caoimhin Kelleher as backup for this season.
Mamardashvili, who featured in Georgia’s four matches at Euro 2024 before their elimination by Spain in the last 16, has made 102 appearances for Valencia since his arrival in 2021. He started both of Valencia’s fixtures this season, which ended in defeats to Barcelona and Celta Vigo.
Liverpool’s decision to secure Mamardashvili now comes amid growing interest from other clubs, which could have impacted their chances of signing him in the next 12-24 months. Alisson, whose contract includes two more years plus an optional additional year, has been supportive of the move. Mamardashvili is anticipated to bolster Liverpool’s goalkeeping options for the future.
