Chelsea winger Noni Madueke issued an apology for his derogatory remark about Wolverhampton, made just hours before his impressive performance in a 6-2 victory at Molineux.
Madueke had posted a critical comment on social media, describing Wolverhampton as “this place is shit,” before quickly deleting it.
The 22-year-old later clarified that the comment was posted from the wrong Instagram account and expressed regret for the incident. “Damn wrong Instagram account. You lot are too fast,” he wrote.
Madueke subsequently apologized, stating, “I just want to apologise to everyone that I might have offended. It is just a human mistake, an accident. It wasn’t meant to be out on my socials like that. I’m sure Wolverhampton is a nice town and I’m sorry.”
Despite being booed by Wolverhampton fans, Madueke silenced his critics by scoring a hat-trick in the match. He acknowledged the hostile reception but took it in stride, saying, “In terms of the boos I expected it but it is part of the game. You have to be able to play under that sort of pressure.”
Madueke’s hat-trick was supported by three assists from teammate Cole Palmer, who has earned a reputation for his composed finishing. Madueke remarked on their synergy, “It is unbelievable. He is cold and I am fire so it mixes well. He has the ability to always play a pass at the right time.”
Chelsea’s win marked their first Premier League victory under new manager Enzo Maresca, following a loss to Manchester City and a UEFA Conference League play-off victory against Servette. Madueke, who also scored against Servette, highlighted the importance of the win for Maresca, referencing his previous success with Leicester City.
Maresca acknowledged Madueke’s contribution but noted a minor issue: “The only thing I didn’t like from Noni is the free-kick he gave away before half-time and we can avoid that, especially against a team who are good from set-pieces.” He emphasized the need for continuous improvement, stating, “Absolutely there always things we can improve on. We can learn many things.”
