Leicester City have secured the signing of Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace for an initial fee of £5 million. Ayew, who joined Palace on loan in 2018 and spent six years at the club, has penned a two-year contract with the Foxes.
During his time at Palace, Ayew made 212 appearances and scored 23 goals. He was a second-half substitute in Palace’s recent 2-1 defeat to Brentford. The deal for Ayew could rise to £8 million with add-ons.
Ayew’s arrival follows Leicester’s earlier signing of midfielder Oliver Skipp from Tottenham Hotspur for £20 million. Leicester manager Steve Cooper had indicated the need to strengthen his forward options.
Ayew expressed his satisfaction with the move: “I’m very happy to be here and I’m proud. I want to thank the club as they fought hard to bring me here – it happened quickly and I’m so happy to be here.”
He added, “As a player, when you hear that the manager wants you, it just makes you want to come and work under him and to try to improve. Even though I’m 32, as a player you always want to learn and improve. I’m here to work hard and help the team achieve their targets.”
Leicester, who have been promoted this season, drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League opener, with Jamie Vardy scoring their equaliser. Their next league fixture is against Fulham on Saturday at 15:00 BST.
