USC head coach Lincoln Riley has announced that Miller Moss will be the starting quarterback for the Trojans. Moss, a redshirt junior who has primarily served as a backup over the past three seasons, is set to lead USC’s offense.
Moss, who was the leading candidate to replace Caleb Williams, gained recognition for his standout performance in USC’s win over Louisville last December. In that game, Moss completed 23 of 33 passes for 372 yards and set a Holiday Bowl record with six touchdown passes in a 42-28 victory.
“He has a really good knowledge of the system, and he does a great job sharing it with his teammates,” quarterbacks coach Luke Huard said, according to ESPN’s Paolo Uggetti. “Miller has done a great job of developing himself; he can make all the throws.”
Jayden Maiava, a transfer from UNLV, will begin the season as Moss’s backup following a strong showing in USC’s spring game. Junior quarterback Jake Jensen has also participated in training camp.
Moss will lead USC into their first season as members of the Big Ten, starting with their opener against LSU in Las Vegas on September 1.
