Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson will be the starter for the team’s preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.
Wilson, along with the other starters, is expected to participate in approximately four offensive series.
The 35-year-old Wilson had been sidelined early in training camp due to a calf injury and did not play in the preseason opener. He has since returned to practice and was the Steelers’ starting quarterback during team drills at the joint practice with the Bills on Thursday, as reported by Brooke Pryor of ESPN.
In the preseason opener, Justin Fields started and completed 5 of 6 passes for 67 yards, also gaining 2 yards rushing. Kyle Allen played the remainder of the game, throwing for 193 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
The Steelers signed Wilson to a one-year, $1.2 million contract this offseason following his release by the Denver Broncos. Pittsburgh acquired Fields in a trade with the Chicago Bears less than a week later.
