Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced on Thursday that Will Howard will be the team’s starting quarterback, according to Nicole Shearin of WBNS.
“We’re excited about Will being the starter,” Day said. “Will has really taken command of the offense, I believe. You feel it in the huddle, you feel his experience. He did a really good job of changing his body in the offseason, so he’s become a threat with both his legs and with his arm.”
Howard, 22, transferred to Ohio State in January after spending four seasons with Kansas State. Last year, he started 12 games, leading the Wildcats to an 8-4 record. He threw for 2,643 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
In 2022, Howard split time as the starter but played a crucial role in Kansas State’s victory over TCU in the Big 12 Championship.
Howard competed against Devin Brown, Lincoln Kienholz, Julian Sayin, and Air Noland for the starting position. Kyle McCord, the previous starter, transferred to Syracuse in December.
Over his four years at Kansas State, Howard accumulated 5,786 passing yards, 48 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions.
Ohio State is set to open its season on August 31 against Akron.
