Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor donned a Guardian Cap during the team’s preseason opener against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
The Guardian Cap is a soft-shell helmet cover designed to offer an additional layer of protection from head impacts. According to the manufacturer, the cap can reduce impact by up to 33%.
In a notable development, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman James Daniels became the first player to wear the Guardian Cap in a game, doing so on Saturday. Following the game, he remarked, “My head doesn’t hurt, so that’s good. … Hopefully, more and more people start wearing them,” as reported by Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Taylor’s recent performance comes after he has played only 21 games in the past two seasons due to ankle and heel injuries.
