Barcelona has officially announced that captain Sergi Roberto has left the club.
The 32-year-old midfielder joined the renowned La Masia academy at the age of 14 and made his first-team debut in November 2010. Over his career at Barcelona, he made 373 appearances and scored 19 goals, notably netting the decisive goal in a thrilling 6-5 victory against Paris St-Germain during the Champions League last-16 tie in 2017.
Roberto earned the last of his 11 caps for the Spanish national team in 2021 and served as captain during the 2023-24 season. His departure was confirmed following the expiration of his contract at the end of June.
His impressive trophy collection with Barcelona includes two Champions League titles, seven La Liga championships, six Copa del Rey victories, and two Club World Cups.
In a statement, Barcelona acknowledged that Roberto’s “versatility has been key with spells at right-back where he played a large proportion of his matches.”
