Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has signed a one-year contract with Fiorentina, marking his return to professional soccer after a year-long hiatus.
The 33-year-old Spaniard, who became a free agent after leaving Manchester United, spent the previous season without playing for any club. During his 12-year tenure at United, De Gea made 545 appearances and secured several trophies, including the 2013 Premier League title, one FA Cup, two League Cups, and a Europa League championship.
Fiorentina confirmed the signing on its official website on Friday and announced that De Gea would be introduced to the Italian media on Monday. The club, which finished eighth in Serie A last season, is preparing for a playoff to qualify for the UEFA Conference League.
