Quincy Hall staged a remarkable comeback in the 400-meter sprint at the Stade de France on Wednesday night, ultimately securing the gold medal.
Throughout most of the race, Hall appeared to be in a challenging position, finding himself in fourth place as he entered the final straightaway. However, he shifted into a higher gear and surged past his competitors to claim victory.
The race unfolded with Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith and Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards initially in contention for gold at the 300-meter mark. Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga made a late charge, but it was Hall’s explosive finish that set him apart.
Hall, a 26-year-old native of Kansas City, clocked a personal best of 43.40 seconds to secure the win. Hudson-Smith finished with a silver medal, achieving a European record time of 43.44 seconds. Samukonga took bronze with a national record of 43.74 seconds, while Richards also set a national record with his time of 43.78 seconds.
