The Colorado Avalanche have signed defenseman Oliver Kylington to a one-year contract, the team announced on Monday.
The deal is valued at $1.05 million, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
Kylington entered the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.
The Swedish defenseman previously played for the Calgary Flames, where he was a finalist for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy last season, an award recognizing perseverance and dedication to hockey. Kylington missed half of last season and the entire 2022-23 campaign for personal reasons.
Drafted 60th overall by the Flames in 2015, Kylington played parts of six seasons with Calgary. In the 2023-24 season, he recorded three goals and five assists, averaging 17:15 of ice time over 33 games.
Last season, Kylington had an expected goals for percentage of 49.51 and a scoring chances for percentage of 50.48, as reported by Natural Stat Trick.
Kylington had a career-best season in 2021-22, amassing 31 points, including nine goals, over 73 games.
The Avalanche now have approximately $2.07 million in projected cap space with 22 active players, according to PuckPedia. Andrew Cogliano retired and joined Colorado’s front office in June, while Zach Parise remains a UFA, having stated in February that last season would be his final one. The Avalanche have no restricted free agents left to sign.
This offseason, Colorado bolstered its defensive depth by signing former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Calvin de Haan and former Ottawa Senators blue-liner Erik Brannstrom to one-year contracts at the beginning of July.
