The Boston Red Sox have reacquired left-hander James Paxton from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for infield prospect Moises Bolivar, the teams announced on Friday.
Paxton, who was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Monday, previously pitched for the Red Sox during the 2023 season before signing with the Dodgers in the offseason. Boston will pay Paxton approximately $1.5 million for the remainder of the season, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.
In the 2024 season, Paxton has recorded a 4.43 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP and 64 strikeouts over 89 1/3 innings across 18 starts. The 11-year veteran is expected to add depth to the Red Sox’s rotation, which already features Tanner Houck, Nick Pivetta, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and Cooper Criswell.
Moises Bolivar, 17, has had a notable season in the Dominican Summer League, hitting three home runs, driving in 19 RBIs, and posting a .787 OPS over 31 games.
