Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has agreed to a restructured deal, as announced by head coach Sean McVay on Tuesday.
The terms of the new agreement have not been disclosed by the team.
According to Over the Cap, the 36-year-old Stafford will have $31 million of his salary guaranteed for the upcoming season. The two-time Pro Bowler sought more guaranteed money in the final two years of a four-year, $160-million extension he signed in March 2022.
McVay praised Stafford’s professionalism during the negotiations, stating that “being able to sit down, look each other in the eye,” helped finalize the deal, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Throughout the offseason, the Rams remained confident that Stafford would report for training camp after requesting an amended deal this spring. Although Stafford has not commented on his contract since the request, he participated in OTA workouts and the team’s mandatory minicamp last month as a show of good faith.
Stafford rebounded from an injury-shortened 2022 season to throw for 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions last season, with a 62.2% completion rate.
The former Super Bowl champion will lead a quarterback room that includes Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett.
