Alvaro Morata has completed a transfer from Atletico Madrid to AC Milan, returning to Serie A just days after winning Euro 2024 with Spain.
The 31-year-old striker signed a four-year contract with Milan, who secured him as a replacement for Olivier Giroud following the former France international’s move to Los Angeles FC.
“Morata has signed with the Rossoneri until 30 June 2028, with an option to extend for an additional year,” stated Milan.
According to Italian media, Milan activated Morata’s €13-million release clause, and the player will earn approximately €4.5 million per season.
During Spain’s victorious Euro 2024 campaign, Morata participated in every match, scoring his sole goal of the tournament in a 3-0 victory over Croatia, which initiated their run in Germany.
Morata has 36 goals in 80 appearances for Spain.
This move marks Morata’s return to Italy after two previous stints with Juventus, where he won two league titles and three Italian Cups.
Morata’s accolades also include an FA Cup with Chelsea and two Champions League titles with Real Madrid, in 2014 and 2017.
Milan, who finished second in Serie A last season but 19 points behind champions Inter Milan, will start the new league season under new coach Paulo Fonseca, hosting Torino on August 17.
