Indiana’s Caitlin Clark made WNBA history on Wednesday night, breaking the league’s single-game assist record with 19 assists in the Fever’s 101-93 defeat against the Dallas Wings.
The previous record of 18 assists was held by Courtney Vandersloot for Chicago on Aug. 31, 2020, with Vandersloot also achieving 18 assists in a playoff game on Sept. 28, 2021.
Clark’s performance also set a new mark for rookie assists, surpassing Ticha Penicheiro’s record of 16 for Sacramento on July 29, 1998.
Clark’s record-breaking assist occurred when she set up Kelsey Mitchell for a game-tying 3-pointer with 2:22 left on the clock. However, Dallas capitalized on an 8-0 run to secure the victory.
Entering the game as the WNBA’s assists-per-game leader this season, Clark also contributed 24 points, shooting 10-for-19 from the field.
