Luka Modric, captain of Real Madrid, has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Spanish champions.
The 38-year-old midfielder, who joined from Tottenham in 2012, has amassed 26 trophies during his tenure, including six Champions League titles and four domestic championships.
Modric, winner of the 2018 Ballon d’Or, has appeared in 534 matches for Los Blancos, scoring 39 goals.
In the 2023-24 season, he featured in 46 matches across all competitions, starting in 23 of them.
At Euro 2024, Modric started in all three of Croatia’s group stage matches before they exited the tournament after finishing third in their group.
His previous contract expired in June, but his extension ensures manager Carlo Ancelotti can continue to rely on his experience as he prepares for his 13th season at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid recently completed the high-profile signing of Kylian Mbappe from Paris St-Germain, with the French striker unveiled on 16 July.
Additionally, teenager Endrick has joined from Palmeiras to strengthen the 15-time European champions’ squad.
