Manchester United has hired former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as one of its two new assistant coaches. The announcement was made on Thursday, confirming Van Nistelrooy’s return to Old Trafford.
Van Nistelrooy, who scored 150 goals in 219 appearances for United from 2000 to 2006, will be joined by former Go Ahead Eagles manager Rene Hake. Both have signed contracts to join fellow Dutchman Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff until June 2026.
“Now is a good time to refresh the coaching team as we look to build on the achievements of the past two years and push to the next level,” said Ten Hag. Ten Hag continues with United after leading the team to an FA Cup victory last season.
Van Nistelrooy has previous coaching experience with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, a role he left at the end of the 2022-23 season. Hake, meanwhile, led Go Ahead Eagles to a ninth-place finish in his sole season in charge last year.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek has left Manchester United, signing a three-year deal with Spanish team Girona.
