Spanish striker Álvaro Morata encountered a moment of concern following his team’s triumph over France in the Euro 2024 semifinals. A stadium security guard inadvertently collided with Morata’s right leg while pursuing a fan who had breached onto the field.
Morata visibly displayed discomfort after the incident, which occurred amidst the celebrations of Spain’s 2-1 victory. Despite hobbling, Morata continued to observe the match from the sidelines after being substituted in the 76th minute.
Spain’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, described Morata’s injury as a “knock” during a period of “excessive euphoria” caused by the fan’s intrusion but reassured that the injury is not considered serious.
The 31-year-old striker has contributed one goal and started in five of Spain’s six matches in the tournament. Spain will now prepare to face either England or the Netherlands in the final scheduled for Sunday in Berlin.
