The NFL has suspended former San Francisco 49ers safety Tashaun Gipson for six games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Details regarding the specific violation were not disclosed.
Gipson, a former Pro Bowler, spent the last two NFL seasons with the 49ers. He is currently a free agent and will celebrate his 34th birthday in August.
During his tenure in San Francisco, Gipson was a consistent starter, appearing in 33 out of 34 games over the past two seasons. In 2023, he contributed 60 tackles, one sack, one interception, and three passes defended as the 49ers made their way to the Super Bowl. The previous season, Gipson recorded five interceptions and eight passes defended.
Despite his contributions, the 49ers opted not to extend Gipson’s contract after he played the last season under a one-year, $2.9 million deal. His current suspension will likely impact his prospects as a free agent, particularly as teams prepare for the upcoming season.
