Toronto Raptors star forward Scottie Barnes is set to ink a landmark five-year, $270 million contract extension, sources disclosed to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Barnes, who recently made his first All-Star appearance, will commit to the Raptors through the 2029-30 season, solidifying his status as the highest-paid player in franchise history. The signing is scheduled for July 6, following the conclusion of the NBA’s free-agency moratorium.
The 22-year-old’s contract guarantees him a minimum of $224.9 million, as reported by Keith Smith of Spotrac. Additionally, the deal includes escalators that could increase his share of the team’s salary cap from 25% to 30% contingent upon achieving All-NBA, All-Defensive team selections, or an MVP award.
Barnes concluded the 2023-24 season with impressive averages of 19.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game across 60 appearances, marking his third year in the league.
A hand injury in March sidelined Barnes for the final 22 games of the season, contributing to the Raptors’ 25-57 record and missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
Originally selected fourth overall in the 2021 NBA Draft from Florida State University, Barnes quickly established himself by winning Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 15.3 points per game in his debut season, helping the Raptors secure a postseason berth.
The Raptors are currently navigating several key free agency decisions, including those concerning starting point guard Immanuel Quickley and wing Gary Trent Jr.
