The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to a five-year, $275 million extension with quarterback Trevor Lawrence, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The contract includes $200 million in guaranteed money.
The extension, which averages $55 million annually, matches the deal of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow for the highest average annual value in NFL history, according to Over The Cap.
Lawrence appeared in 16 games last season, amassing 4,016 passing yards and 21 touchdowns, while throwing 14 interceptions. Additionally, he contributed 339 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
In 2022, Lawrence had his best season, starting all 17 games and leading the Jaguars to a playoff victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. That year, he earned Pro Bowl honors with 4,113 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, all career highs.
Under Lawrence’s leadership, Jacksonville has a 20-30 record, including an 8-8 mark in the 2023 season. Both the team and Lawrence faced challenges during his rookie year under then-head coach Urban Meyer, but they have achieved consecutive winning seasons since.
This offseason, Lawrence joins Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff in signing substantial extensions. Other quarterbacks such as Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys, Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins, and Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers are also expected to negotiate new deals with their teams.
Since being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Lawrence has accumulated 11,770 passing yards, 58 touchdowns, and 39 interceptions.
