Kieran McKenna has committed to a new four-year contract, ensuring his tenure at Ipswich Town continues after guiding the Suffolk club to a remarkable ascent to the Premier League.
The 38-year-old’s contract extension at Portman Road was finalized a week after speculation suggested he might turn down the club’s offer. McKenna had been linked with the managerial vacancy at Brighton and was on Chelsea’s shortlist to replace Mauricio Pochettino. However, he withdrew from consideration for the Stamford Bridge position on Sunday.
“I am extremely proud to have signed a new contract with the club,” McKenna told Ipswich Town’s official website.
“We have enjoyed incredible success together over the last two seasons and I’m excited to have the opportunity and responsibility of leading this fantastic club into its first season in the Premier League in 22 years.”
Under McKenna’s leadership, Ipswich achieved back-to-back automatic promotions, elevating the team from League One to the Premier League for the first time since 2002. This impressive accomplishment has positioned the former Manchester United assistant first-team coach as one of the most highly regarded and sought-after managers in English football.
