Girona concluded their impressive La Liga campaign with a resounding 7-0 win against relegated Granada on Friday. Artem Dovbyk showcased his prowess by securing a hat-trick, reclaiming the top spot in the league’s goalscoring charts.
Already securing a historic qualification for the Champions League, Michel’s team secured a comfortable third-place finish, trailing behind champions Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Eric Garcia, on loan from Barcelona, opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season in the 30th minute. Viktor Tsygankov and a penalty from Dovbyk widened the gap before halftime.
Tsygankov found the net again early in the second half, followed by goals from Dovbyk and Cristhian Stuani. Granada’s struggles were compounded when Facundo Pellistri, on loan from Manchester United, received two yellow cards and was sent off.
Dovbyk, previously overtaken in the Pichichi Trophy race by Alexander Sorloth, regained the lead with his 24th La Liga goal of the season, converting his second penalty in the 90th minute.
The victory capped off a remarkable season for Girona, marking their ascent to the upper echelons of Spanish football.
