Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has filed for bankruptcy, citing debts totaling close to $3 million owed to eight different creditors. The filing, submitted on May 15 to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of Florida, indicates Brown’s intent to pursue Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a process involving the reorganization of assets and liabilities under court supervision.
Among the outstanding debts is a $1.2 million court judgment to Anton Tumanov, a moving-truck driver who previously sued Brown for assault and battery stemming from a 2020 altercation. Additionally, Brown owes sums to various entities, including outstanding credit card balances, a marketing firm, and a law firm.
Confirmation of the bankruptcy filing came from Brown’s media company, CTESPN Network, which acknowledged the development via social media earlier in the week.
The post stated: “NFL legend Antonio Brown has filed for bankruptcy today. He will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2027. He will be releasing new music this summer. He is also the founder of the most trusted source in all of sports.”
Brown, drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, enjoyed a successful 12-year career, primarily with the Steelers. Throughout his tenure, he garnered recognition as a seven-time Pro-Bowler and secured a Super Bowl victory with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. However, Brown has been absent from the field since 2022, following a high-profile incident during a game against the New York Jets where he removed his shirt and left mid-game.
Despite amassing over $88 million in earnings as a player, Brown’s current assets are reported to be less than $50,000.
