Bayer Leverkusen demonstrated its dominance in the Bundesliga by securing a commanding 5-0 victory over Bochum, extending its unbeaten streak to an impressive 50 games across all competitions.
The triumph marked a redemption for Leverkusen, erasing the memories of last season’s final day defeat to Bochum with a resounding performance. Xabi Alonso’s side has maintained an undefeated record since then, surpassing Benfica’s previous record of 48 consecutive unbeaten matches from late 1963 to early 1965.
Leverkusen’s exceptional form has already secured them the Bundesliga title, and they are set to compete in both the German Cup and Europa League finals.
Midfielder Robert Andrich highlighted the significance of their achievements, stating, “I think already the Bundesliga – you can’t imagine how much that means for the club or the fans. We’ll lift the trophy next week in our stadium. It’s going to be very emotional.”
Leverkusen’s upcoming challenges include a Europa League final clash against Atalanta in Dublin on May 22, followed by the German Cup final against Kaiserslautern in Berlin just three days later.
Despite Bochum’s promising start, their efforts were thwarted by Felix Passlack’s early dismissal in the 15th minute. Leverkusen capitalized on the advantage, with Patrik Schick and Victor Boniface finding the net before halftime.
A commanding second-half display saw Leverkusen extend their lead further, with goals from Amine Adli, Josip Stanišić, and Álex Grimaldo sealing the comprehensive victory.
With one round remaining in the league, Leverkusen sits comfortably at the top with 87 points, while Bochum faces uncertainty, remaining three points above the relegation zone ahead of their final game against Werder Bremen.
In another fixture, injury-hit Bayern Munich bid farewell to coach Thomas Tuchel with a 2-0 win over Wolfsburg, courtesy of goals from Lovro Zvonarek and Leon Goretzka. Despite missing key players, Bayern displayed resilience, securing Tuchel’s final home game in charge on a positive note.
Other notable results include Hoffenheim’s commanding 6-0 victory over relegated Darmstadt, and St. Pauli’s promotion from the second division.
