Borussia Dortmund clinched a spot in the Champions League final after defeating Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 1-0 on Tuesday. Mats Hummels’ decisive header in the 50th minute secured Dortmund’s victory, propelling them to a 2-0 aggregate win over PSG.
Despite late pressure from PSG, goalkeeper Gregor Kobel’s remarkable saves denied Kylian Mbappé and his teammates the opportunity to mount a comeback. Warren Zaire-Emery missed a chance for PSG and Kylian Mbappe had long left the pitch as Dortmund celebrated victory.
“Extremely proud. I’m very happy,” Terzić said. “We beat a team like PSG two times and we again kept a clean sheet. We started really well and kept them away from the goal.”
The German side now awaits the winner between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, with the final set to take place at Wembley Stadium on June 1.
For PSG, the defeat marks another season without Champions League glory, despite their significant investments in star players such as Mbappé, Neymar, and Lionel Messi. PSG’s captain, Marquinhos, acknowledged their shortcomings in efficiency and defense.
“Efficiency, that’s what we were missing,” PSG captain Marquinhos said. “We should have defended better. They scored from a corner and a counter-attack (in the first leg). We created more chances but they won both games.”
As Dortmund celebrated their victory, Mbappé appeared dejected, fueling speculation about his rumored move to Real Madrid.
The match saw moments of tension, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. However, Dortmund’s solid defensive display and clinical finishing proved decisive in securing their path to the final.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi highlighted the numerous occasions his team struck the post or crossbar over both legs. However, PSG’s journey in the competition fell short, despite the presence of one of the world’s top players. PSG’s campaign concluded with a total of five losses in the competition.
Mbappé’s farewell to the Parc des Princes will take place on Sunday against Toulouse, PSG’s last home game of the season. Following this, Mbappé’s final match for the club will be in the French Cup final against Lyon on May 25th.
