Manchester City continued their pursuit of a fourth consecutive Premier League title with a 2-0 triumph over Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland secured the victory for City.
Erling Haaland, who had been sidelined for the previous two games due to injury, returned to the Manchester City squad as a substitute for their encounter at the City Ground. He wasted no time in making his mark, slotting home a clinical finish just nine minutes after entering the pitch.
The win narrowed the gap between second-place City and league leaders Arsenal to just one point, following Arsenal’s 3-2 victory over Tottenham earlier in the day.
Haaland’s goal propelled him to the top of the league’s scoring charts with 21 goals this season, surpassing Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
City, with a game in hand over Arsenal, stands poised to clinch a fourth consecutive title if they win their remaining four fixtures. Such a feat would mark their sixth title in seven years, reaffirming their domestic dominance.
City took the lead in the 32nd minute through Josk Gvardiol’s header from Kevin De Bruyne’s corner, while Forest squandered opportunities to equalize, notably through Chris Wood’s missed chances.
Haaland sealed the victory with a well-taken goal, courtesy of another De Bruyne assist. Evading his marker, Haaland unleashed a low shot past Matz Sels, securing City’s victory.
However, City’s joy was tempered by an injury to goalkeeper Ederson, who was substituted at halftime due to a shoulder injury.
City’s final four games are against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham United.
